Jane, I really, really like this - the reference to ikons in the shape of the scarf is so powerful. It seems to talk of fear, faith and you. So personal but very accessible. Hope you OK Judyx
A friend from Poland sent me a post card of a Polish Madonna. I thought I would see what I looked like in her head-gear, and it was an identification with suffering - not that I am really suffering, although one naturally feels like a victim for awhile, esp after the diagnosis.
I was a what was once called a "Fleet Street journalist" for twenty exciting years, fifteen of them as a feature writer on the Daily Mail. I left there in 2005 and have since written two books; a biography of actor Colin Farrell published by John Blake and in 2009 I published, Inside, an account of my year teaching literacy and art inside HMP Wormwood Scrubs. That was published by the Social Affairs Unit.
I write film reviews for the Salisbury Review Magazine and contribute diary stories to the national papers.
My main interest is art, in particular painting. I have taken part in numerous exhibitions as a member of the Stuckist painters. I had a painting hung in the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and a painting in the RA Summer Show. Until I was struck by cancer I hoped to make a new career as a portrait painter. I still hold on to that hope!
